  • Highly Commended, Underwater Photographer Of The Year competition 2018, “Parting Shot” in Outside Magazine February 2018. "OCD Diver Tries To Right Shipwreck" - The iconic Kittiwake shipwreck in Grand Cayman used to be upright. On October 8th, 2017, it was discovered that it had been rolled onto it's side by storm surge from Hurricane Nate. In this shot, dive model Simon Claeys tries to lift the Kittiwake shipwreck back into it's upright position. The ship was sunk as an artificial reef in 2011.

  • **Winner, British Society of Underwater Photography Underwater Excellence Competition 2018** - Grand Cayman - Two black hamlets perform an intricate dance as they spawn at dusk. Photographed using a slow shutter speed to show their motion.

  • **Winner, British Society of Underwater Photography Underwater Excellence Competition 2018** - Grand Cayman - I photographed this arrow crab using one strobe to give strong shadows and light. The title "Chairoscuro" is a reference to Italian word for this kind of lighting, found in Renaissance paintings. Photographed at Macabuca.

  • **First Place, British Society Of Underwater Photographers "Focus On - Something Tiny" monthly competition.** Grand Cayman - Roughhead blenny. Photographed on a coral reef on the west side of the island. I wanted a photograph with lots of personality. This blenny is tiny—its head is only half the size of a pinky nail! Photographing it with a shallow depth of field and a Nauticam SMC-1 +15 super macro diopter meant I had a razor-thin focus range: it was in focus--and out of focus--within the width of a credit card. There was a slight current the day I took this--enough to make focusing extra challenging. The teeth are so tiny I didn't notice them on the back of the camera when I was shooting the photograph; it was only when I looked at the photograph on the computer that they became visible.

"Expectant Parents" - A pair of two claw shrimp, including one with eggs, in the bottom of a purple vase sponge. Two claw shrimp are a rare find on Grand Cayman; these are the only ones I've seen in over 300 dives on the island! When diving, I have made a habit of looking into every purple vase sponge I come across. I had never seen this kind of shrimp before--two claw shrimp as I would later come to find out. I placed one strobe along the side of the sponge to provide backlighting, and another pointing into the top of the sponge to provide fill light.

  • **Fifth Place, British Society of Underwater Photographers "Focus On: Sharks" monthly competition** - Roatan Honduras - During a shark dive in Roatan, the sharks were cruising down below. I kept an eye out above me, looking for a different shot. I love the way the movement of the shark's body curves around the sun.

"Face To Face"<br />
A 7 1/2 foot long blue shark presses its face into my camera dome port. This shark came up to me over and over again, emerging from under the boat, or coming straight into my dome port.

"Starry, Starry Day" - Starfish Point, Grand Cayman. Two starfish in a split shot. I was using a small aperture to achieve a starbust from the sun. I noticed that a gentle boat wave pushing toward shore caused a star effect to reflect on the water. I framed this shot, waited for another wave, and took this photo.

"Purple Squid" This is the actual color! The squid was changing color as it swam forward and back, checking me out. It was moving up and down through the water column as well, enabling me to get this angle. Photographed at night.

"Eye Of The Squid". No crop. This amazing Caribbean reef squid hung around for about ten minutes. With patience and slow movements I was able to approach very closely to it. At times it seemed intrigued with its reflection in my macro lens port.

Over-Under split shot of the Wreck of the Doc Polson, Grand Cayman.<br />
If you look closely, you can see divers exploring the wreck. This cable-laying vessel was used to dig a canal on the island. When that was completed, the ship was purpose-sunk as an artificial reef in 1991. Split shot with the dive boat in the background.

"Torrent" : Silversides rush around a jack as it hunts them in a swim-through in Grand Cayman. I experimented with something different, trying a slow-shutter speed to capture the movement. When a jack chasing the silversides entered the frame I knew I had my shot!
